Narrative Report

The experience I had with my On-the-Job-Training at Advance Technology System (ATS)-Emcor is worth having. I have learned a lot of lessons that a computer engineering student basically should know, like how to assemble a PC, reformat the hard drive, Install an Operating System and troubleshoot some basic computer problems, and all these lessons I have learned by experience. Our supervisors did not teach us how to do it, we discovered it by ourselves. The whole department became our laboratory and we were the doctors. We diagnosed every computer problems by experiment asking only for assistance when we cannot really solve it. Everything we need for our operation we were given( like when we ask for a new motherboard, a new power supply, memory card, video card or a computer casing) just for the sake of experimenting how to heal the sick CPU. And of course we get the chance to burn every installer we had at the office.

In my own views and opinion, there at EMCOR we were not treated as a trainee but rather as an employee. We are the one who received and entertain costumers who bring their system unit that needs to be fixed, the one who fix it, and also we are the one who assemble computers every time there is an order. I experience how hard it is to work 8 hours a day with out even taking a break except during lunch. I get a chance to experience how it is to deal and handle costumers and of course get a taste of complains too from hot headed ones.

The training I had made me realized that it’s not just as easy to work 8 hours everyday and do the same thing over and over again. That you should always take good care of your health for you to work efficiently (As my boss would have it” Always eat on time basig makusgan ka kalit”) and that you should always observe the company’s rules because you will never go wrong by following it. My experience made me see things differently- like before when I saw a computer monitor turning black with all the writings on it I easily panic but now it’s nothing to me. It made me see computers and my course in a whole lot different perspective. The training I had maybe a bit tiring but at the end of it all I can proudly say that all the things I have gone through is all worth it.
